Hairloss in TEENAGE GIRLS

HAIR LOSS IN TEENAGE GIRLS

Hair loss is often associated with aging, but what happens when it becomes a concern for teenage girls? In this blog, we'll explore the various factors contributing to hair loss in young girls and provide insights into managing and preventing this issue.

HOW is it different from other age groups?

1.PUBERTY
GIRLS START UNDERGOING A LOT OF HORMONAL CHANGES WHEN THEY HIT PUBERTY
ANDROGENS (TESTOSTERONE AND RELATED HORMONES) WILL PRODUCE HAIR LOSS IF THEIR LEVELS ARE HIGH ENOUGH

2.HORMONAL DISORDERS
A LOT OF GIRLS WITH HORMONAL DISORDERS (PCOS, CAH, THYROID DYSFUNCTION) GET SYMPTOMS AROUND TEENAGE
A LOT OF HORMONAL TREATMENTS ALSO START AROUND THIS AGE

3.NUTRITIONAL NEGLECT
A balanced diet is crucial for overall health, including hair health. Teenagers may not always maintain optimal nutritional intake, leading to deficiencies in vitamins and minerals essential for hair growth. Exploring nutrient-rich foods and supplements can play a vital role in promoting healthy hair.

4.STRESS
TEENAGE IS WHEN MENTAL STRESS STARTS PEAKING
SOCIAL, PERSONAL, ACADEMIC ISSUES CREATE STRESS
THE SCALP DOESN'T TAKE LONG TO START SHEDDING HAIR!

5.OVERSTYLING
Excessive use of heat styling tools, tight hairstyles, and chemical treatments can damage hair follicles and lead to breakage. Educating teenage girls about gentle hair care practices and the importance of allowing hair to rest can mitigate these issues.
HAIR STRAIGHTENING, CURLING, PERMING, SMOOTHENING, KERATIN TREATMENTS, HAIR BLEACHING, COLORING...
NEED I SAY MORE?
LET'S NOT FORGET-TYING HAIR TOO TIGHT IS ALSO A BAD THING!

How to approach hair loss in teenage girls?

Q1) IS IT JUST NORMAL HAIR SHEDDING?
LOSING 100-150 HAIR A DAY IS NORMAL
DON'T TRY TO REDUCE IT TO ZERO, THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

Q2) WHAT TO EAT FOR GOOD HAIR?

ATLEAST-
150 GRAMS OF NATURAL PROTEIN (VEG OR NON-VEG)
2 CUPS OF FRUIT
2.5 CUPS OF VEGETABLES
1 CUP YOGURT OR MILK
RON-RICH FOODS LIKE SPINACH, PEAS, IRON- FORTIFIED CEREAL, BREAD, MEAT

Q3) WHAT ABOUT SHAMPOOS/OILS?
- ALWAYS OIL YOUR HAIR (TILL THE TIPS) BEFORE HAIRWASH
- USE A MILD SHAMPOO (DON'T WORRY IF IT DOESN'T LATHER MUCH, THAT ALSO DEPENDS ON YOUR WATER SUPPLY - HARD WATER LESS LATHER)
- USE A HAIR MASK OR CONDITIONER IF YOUR HAIR FEEL DRY

Q4) HAIR SUPPLEMENTS ?
YOU NEED TO DO 2 THINGS BEFORE THAT-

• INFORM YOUR PARENT(S) THAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING HAIR LOSS LET THEM HAVE A LOOK

• CONSULT YOUR DERMATOLOGIST - THEY WILL LET YOU KNOW IF YOU NEED HAIR SUPPLEMENTS (NOT ALL CASES DO!)

Aphorism 89

Explained of Aphorism 89 Need of asking special questions.  When the patient has finished on his own accord his story of suffering and has answered to the questions of physician, but physician thinks that he had not made complete picture of disease then he is at liberty to ask some special questions.  Physician has to rely on patient for description of his sensation of suffering unless it is a case of malingering. Even feigned diseases can be diagnosed by close observation.  In footnote Dr. Hahnemann gives example of special questions, avoiding its frame to be suggestive in itself, like -  •How often are his bowels moved? What is the exact character of the stool? Did the whitish evacuation consist of mucus or faeces? Had he or had he not pains during the evacuation?
