Five favorite secrets to make your yoga practice more powerful and blissful

Five favorite secrets to make your yoga practice more powerful and blissful

1. Start with a “Sankalp”

I totally agree with you. Setting an intention before practicing yoga can really enhance the whole experience. It helps us connect with our true desires and brings focus to our practice. Just sitting on the mat is one thing, but when we bring our mind and body together, it's a whole different level. So, are there any specific intentions you like to set for your yoga practice?

Ask yourself –

What do you want to gain out of this class?

How do you want to feel after this practice?

What do you want to give your mind, body, and soul?

What was your intention behind returning to the mat?

Whatever answers come to you, seed that intent in your subconscious mind. Affirm how you would like to feel by the end of this practice. Once done, open your eyes and surrender the outcome. You are now prepared to proceed!

The power of setting an intention with not just yoga, but various other aspects of life — eating, drinking, working out, taking your medicines is immense. Learn more about intentions here.

Find it difficult to set an intention? Do not struggle too hard. It can take time and practice to find the right intention for you. Let it come to you intuitively.

2. Where focus goes, energy flows

This needs a constant reminder, but it is so powerful. While practicing yoga, divert your focus and attention to the parts of your body that are engaged in the practice.

For eg. When in Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), shift your focus towards your neck being stretched, lower abdomen pressed against the ground, hands and lower back lifting your upper body.

In addition to that, bring focus to the part of your body you are trying to heal.

Being mindful and drawing your attention to the part of your body engaged in a particular asana can make all the difference.

3. Wear A Smile:

Ditch the serious face during yoga—let your smile shine! A genuine grin, or even a relieved laugh, enhances the joy in your practice. Don't strain for the "perfect" pose; instead, wear a friendly smile. Even on challenging days, fake it; the brain responds to the chemical boost. Yoga isn't a battle; be gentle, relax, and let positivity radiate through your smile. Still skeptical? Smiling triggers endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine, offering immunity, hormonal balance, and stable blood pressure benefits.

4. Take a moment:

Embrace a slower pace amidst life's hustle, especially on the yoga mat. Allocate a moment or two to connect with yourself, sensing the impact of each asana before transitioning. Avoid a mechanical routine; pause and reflect. It's easy to lose track while flowing from one pose to the next or one pranayama to another, neglecting the awareness of how each practice influences your well-being.

5. Just be

Frequently take moments to simply exist during your yoga journey. The intervals between poses, where you embrace the present moment, offer a profoundly meditative experience. Following pranayama, close your eyes, rest your hands on your lap, and bask in the tranquility of just being. No tasks, no destinations—just pure bliss in the state of nothingness, the essence of meditation.

We can do yoga for years, but it’s only when we infuse its teachings to the ups and downs of our lives that we become attuned to the potency of yoga’s transformative powers.

Implementing these 5 secrets will breathe life into your practice—worth giving a shot!

Aphorism 85

Explanation of Aphorism 84 Procedure to be adapted in writing.  While the patient narrates his sufferings the physician begins to write every new circumstance with a fresh line and leaves a few lines before beginning a new symptom, so that he could add to any line the matter which had not been explained properly.  Some physicians while taking up the case writes rubrics instead of whole symptoms as instructed in this section, saving their time. But whenever that record is seen much is lost as the exact expression and words of patient is missing and we find only interpretation of the physician in the form of rubrics - which if goes wrong is tough to rectify due to absence of full symptoms.
