Explanation of Aphorism 96
Hypochondriac patient.
Disposition of patient varies greatly, some patients who -
1. Are very sensitive and impatient of their suffering.
2. Express their symptoms in flowery colour, to induce physician to give prompt relief. They are hypochondriacs.
In footnote Dr. Hahnemann says that unadulterated and unexaggerated symptoms could rarely be received from hypochondriacs. It can be known by comparing their suffering complained of at various times and it subsides by giving nothing medicated.
From their exaggeration of symptoms, exaggeration itself becomes an important feature in constituting portrait of disease-case is exactly different with insane and malingers.
