Aphorism 88

Explanation of Aphorism 88
Details lacking in voluntary narration can be asked.

In voluntary narration of the patient, if nothing important is mentioned regarding various parts or functions of body or mind, then physician has to inquire regarding the lacking detail. But, he should frame his questions in such a way that patient has to explain it in detail avoiding tag questions as already mentioned.

► In footnote Dr. Hahnemann gives examples of framing of questions like -
1. What was the character of his stools?
2. How does he pass his water?
3. How is it with his day and night sleep?
4. What is the state of is disposition, his humour, his memory?
5. How about the thirst?
6.What sort of taste he has in his mouth?
7.What kinds of food and drink are most relished?
8. What are most repugnant to him?
9. Whether he has his full natural taste, or some other unusual taste?
10.How does he feel after eating or drinking? 11. Has he anything to tell about the head, the limbs or the abdomen?

Mentioned here are the only hints of the question frame in which patient generally has to narrate, physician himself can form questions keeping this in mind that he has to receive a descriptive answer.

Aphorism 85

Explanation of Aphorism 84 Procedure to be adapted in writing.  While the patient narrates his sufferings the physician begins to write every new circumstance with a fresh line and leaves a few lines before beginning a new symptom, so that he could add to any line the matter which had not been explained properly.  Some physicians while taking up the case writes rubrics instead of whole symptoms as instructed in this section, saving their time. But whenever that record is seen much is lost as the exact expression and words of patient is missing and we find only interpretation of the physician in the form of rubrics - which if goes wrong is tough to rectify due to absence of full symptoms.
