Aphorism 76

Explanation of Aphorism 76
Treatment of Iatrogenic disease.

Iatrogenic diseases are difficult to cure and homoeopathy is meant to cure only natural diseases, here Dr. Hahnemann says regarding treatment of iatrogenic diseases-

1. Initially the medicine which is thought to be the major cause of the condition is to be stopped, letting the vital force to remedy itself.
2. If vital force is unable to overcome it, due to presence of chronic miasm, then appropriate anti miasmatic treatment is to be instituted.
3. To carry out the above mentioned two points, it requires time of several years. Further, patience of the physician as well as the diseased person is of utmost importance in this aspect.

In footnote Dr. Hahnemann says that physicians who practice such treatment habitually points out the internal disfigurement at the post-mortem examination, to the mourning relatives of the deceased; which is due to his pseudo art but he skillfully saves himself of the blame. Citing instances from those who have died of the similar condition, who were not treated by such bungling, on post-mortem examination of their body no such disfigurement is noticed, but records and illustrated works on pathological anatomy exhibit product of such bungling. From these facts, the value of evidence drawn from these beautiful illustrations, as well as of the honesty of these authors and book makers can be known.
