Aphorism 72

Aphorism 72 Explanation
Acute and chronic diseases.

In previous section, Dr. Hahnemann asks the physician that how they are going to ascertain what is necessary for them to know in order to cure the disease. Answering this question, he says that initially physician is to know whether the case before him is that of the acute or chronic disease - thereby he gives general chronic to be fulfilled by a case to be called acute or chronic.
Case is acute, if it is of -
1. Sudden onset.
2.Rapid progress.
3. Finishes its course quickly in moderate time.
4. Either it finishes its course or takes life of the patient labouring under it, due to its violence.
Case is chronic, if it is of-
1. Slow and insidious onset.
2. Gradual progression.
3. Caused by chronic miasm.
4. Generally has life long course without proper anti miasmatic treatment.

Dr. Hahnemann further says that vital force whose office is to preserve health initially opposes onset and progression of chronic disease, but it is only fruitless and useless as it cannot extinguish it, rather suffers helplessly until the whole organism is destroyed.

▲ In laying criteria for acute and chronic diseases, nowhere any time period is mentioned as we find in works of dominant medical science. Thereby, in homoeopathy a disease is acute as well as chronic since its onset there is no cut off limit of the - disease to be called acute or chronic as per its duration.

Aphorism 85

Explanation of Aphorism 84 Procedure to be adapted in writing.  While the patient narrates his sufferings the physician begins to write every new circumstance with a fresh line and leaves a few lines before beginning a new symptom, so that he could add to any line the matter which had not been explained properly.  Some physicians while taking up the case writes rubrics instead of whole symptoms as instructed in this section, saving their time. But whenever that record is seen much is lost as the exact expression and words of patient is missing and we find only interpretation of the physician in the form of rubrics - which if goes wrong is tough to rectify due to absence of full symptoms.

Aphorism 103

Explanation of Aphorism 103 In chronic diseases Psora should be investigated.  In case of epidemic diseases homoeopathic medicine pertaining to it could be found by observing several patients suffering from same epidemic. Similar is the case with chronic miasm Psora, which is so diversified in its manifestation that it requires several patients of different constitution and living under different conditions suffering from Psora to be observed carefully to know the complete range of symptoms it can produce. Only then a homoeopathic antipsoric medicine can be selected which can cure it. #Aphorism103
