Aphorism 65

Aphorism 65 Explanation

Familiarity of secondary action, counter action being directly proportional to primary action can be known by following -

 1. Initially hand bathed in hot water is much warmer than the other hand which is not treated with hot water; on withdrawing the hand treated in hot water and drying, it gradually becomes much colder than the other hand.

2. One who is heated by violent exercise feels more chilly and shivering later on.

3. If a person had heated himself by taking wine, then even his every breath feels too cold next day.

4. On keeping an arm in very cold water, initially it becomes pale and cold than the other, but when removed and dried it not only becomes warmer than the other but also hot, red and inflamed.

5. Increased vivacity after use of strong coffee, often leads to sluggishness and drowsiness remaining for long time. unless fresh supply of coffee is used again.

6. Profound stupefied sleep induced by opium causes the following night to be more sleepless.

7. If opium is used to produce constipation, later diarrhoea ensues.

8. If purgatives are used, which irritate bowel; constipation occurs for several days.

It always happens that secondary action, counter action is always directly proportional to the primary action, provided the exact opposite is present in nature.

▲ In logic we have 'Union of many conditions together form cause. So, we see that primary action is the effect of the conditions united together to form cause, and if sufficient it produces effect. Secondary action, counter action is reaction of vital force, which is against the action of medicine in large doses, to preserve life - like a defensive reaction.
