Aphorism 45

Beginning this aphorism with an exclamation no means that what happens in case when two dissimilar diseases meet together do not occur in case when two similar diseases meet together in an organism.
Two diseases similar to each other in their suffering annihilate one another when they meet together in an organism, the stronger removes the weaker permanently. New disease occupies the site of the organism that was previously occupied by old disease. The old disease resulting from the dynamic cause without any material substratum is removed permanently from the organism by the entry of the later disease which is dynamic in nature similar to and stronger than the existing disease.
In field of therapeutics, new similar but stronger morbific potency controls feelings of the patient and hence the life principle on account of its peculiarity can no longer feel the weaker similar disease, which is extinguished exists no longer - for it was never anything material, but a dynamic - spirit-like (conceptual) affection. This occurs temporarily by new similar but stronger morbific potency.
In footnote there is an example of dynamic influence having no material substratum in which it is mentioned that image of a lamp's flame is rapidly overpowered and effaced from our retina by stronger sunbeam falling on the eye.
