Aphorism 39
Empirical treatment of allopathic physician
Having shown effect of stronger dissimilar disease on previously existing weaker disease, Dr. Hahnemann says that although authorities of old school had seen these for many centuries that even nature cannot cure diseases by accession of another stronger dissimilar disease to the one already present in the body but they continue their therapeutics on its basis without paying heed either to nature or to their own experience and result of their treatment.
Dr. Hahnemann then gives a generalized statement regarding what happens in allopathic treatment, that in an empirical way physician creates an artificial disease stronger and dissimilar to the original one, which as long as kept up, merely suspends original disease only to return when artificial dissimilar disease cannot be kept up due to diminished strength of the patient, which no longer admit continuation of allopathic assaults. These can be seen in following instances -
1. Itch exanthema disappears soon from skin after administering violent purgatives in frequent doses, but when patient can no longer stand allopathic assaults to bowels and cannot take any dose of purgatives further, then on stopping employment of purgatives either the cutaneous eruption breaks out as befree or the internal Psora manifests itself from latent state as some had symptom in patient along with undiminished original disease resulting strength of person to come to boot.
2 Outcome of keeping up artificial slceration on the skin and issues on the exterior of the body for eradicating chronic diseases also ends up hopelessly as discharges from ulcers and due to issues causes debility in patient when these are removed, original disease reappears uncured
3. Pechlin and others testifies that epilepsy was suppressed for many years by means of issues which variably recurred in an aggravated form when they were allowed to heal.
Dr. Hahnemann again repeats what he had already said that in ordinary allopathic treatment however strong the power of medicine may be. If it is dissimilar to existing disease it could never cure it rather suspends it so long as the medicines ads strongly. As the strength of medicine is reduced or it is stopped the original disease recurs uncured along with addition of some new symptom
