Explanation of Aphorism 102
Complete signs and symptoms of an epidemic can be known by observation of several patients.
Writing down symptoms of several cases of an epidemic completes the totality impregnating it with more peculiar, characteristics and excluding general symptoms like anorexia, insomnia etc.
Epidemically effected persons are affected by same cause and present more or less similar symptoms, but whole totality of epidemic cannot be known by mere observation of single patient as he will be presenting only part of symptoms in intense degree pertaining to his weaker part. Thereby, whole signs and symptoms of an epidemic can be known by perfectly deducing and abstracting suffering of several patients of different constitutions.
In footnote Dr. Hahnemann says that physician who has already chosen homoeopathic remedy by observing first case of epidemic, on observing subsequent cases can-
1. Verify its suitableness or,
2. Discover more appropriate homoeopathic remedy.
